Since gangs are a community problem, we decided to make our discussion of gangs a community-wide event, therefore we have moved our December neighborhood meeting to a facility that could accommodate more people and has a better audio/visual system. Steve Thompson, from the Southeastern Minnesota Narcotics and Gang Task Force will be our keynote speaker. We will be addressing some of the following questions: What is a gang? What constitutes a gang-related crime? What kind of crimes do gangs usually commit? Who joins gangs? Why do they join gangs? How many gangs are active in Rochester? How sophisticated are Rochester's gangs? Are Rochester's gangs morphing? Are they forming new alliances? Are there gangs in our schools? What is being done to discourage gangs in schools? What organizations are here in our community that combat the growth of gangs? What community partnerships or collaborative efforts exist to address the problem of gangs? more info
