City of Rochester Department of Public Works to host the Minnesota Governor’s Geographic Information Council

The City of Rochester Department of Public Works will host the May 28, 2008 meeting of the Minnesota Governor's Council on Geographic Information in Rochester, Minnesota. The council will meet from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. in Room 424 of the University Square Building.

Most of the meeting will be devoted to six presentations by area professionals, primarily from the City of Rochester and Olmsted and Goodhue Counties. The presentations will focus on various geospatial technology applications including uses of GIS in flood control monitoring, response to electric network outages, and crime mapping; Goodhue County’s new GIS User Group, and Olmsted County’s roadway network database, as well as its comprehensive land use evaluation system.

The City Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, will hold a public meeting in the Council/Board Chambers of the Government Center, 151 4th Street SE, Rochester, MN, on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. regarding:

  • Type III, Phase III Restricted Development R2007-028CUP Final Plan and Variance R2008-010VAR by Joe Weis – Weis Development Corp to be known as Washington Village. The applicant proposes to construct two apartment buildings on the former Bachman site. One apartment building would contain 67 units while the other would contain 51 units, both buildings would have underground parking as well as surface parking. The applicant is also requesting a variance to the access spacing standards. Access to development would be off of 10th Ave NW and 11th Ave NW. The property is located north of the Northgate Plaza Senior Housing development, south of Washington School and along the east side of 11th Ave. NW.
  • Type III, Phase II Incentive Development R2008-018CUP by Kiehm Construction Inc. The applicant proposes to construct a three story, climate controlled, secured, self storage facility along the north side of Eastwood Road SE. The proposed building exceeds the allowable floor area ratio within the B-4 zoning district. The applicant is also requesting a Substantial Land Alteration permit to change the grades by more than 10 feet on the property. The property is located along the north side of Eastwood Road SE and east of the Bear Creek Post Office.
  • Type III, Phase II Incentive Development R2008-017CUP and Design Modification R2008-002DM by HL2, LLC. The applicant proposes to construct a hotel at the southeast corner of Bandel Road NW and 59th Street NW. The proposed building exceeds the allowable floor area ratio and permitted height within the B-4 zoning district. The applicant is also requesting a Substantial Land Alteration permit to change the grades by more than 10 feet on the southerly portion of the lot.
  • Type III, Phase I Amendment to approved Incentive Development R2007-007CUP and Variance R2008-007VAR RP Second Street, LLC. The applicant proposes a business center on land at the intersection of 16th Avenue SW and 2nd Street SW and south of 1st Street SW. The proposal has been amended to change the land area available for the project and removing the one level of parking and the second story of retail space has been moved to the main level. The applicant also requests a variance for the parking standard of 62.383 D.
