Sketch for Safety Logo

Middle school students across Rochester recently unleashed their creativity, sharpened up their pencils, and uncapped their pens to participate in the first ever Sketch for Safety art competition, as part of publicizing National Night Out.

This challenge was for 6-8th graders to be creative and turn their positive thoughts about their neighborhood into works of art. Students were asked to draw something that displayed “Why they like their neighborhoods” and/or about “neighborhood safety.” This contest was sponsored by RNeighbors, the Rochester Neighborhood Resource Center; RSVP (Senior Volunteer Corps); and the local National Night Out committee.

End: 10:00 pm

Forbidden Planet

The Rochester Civic Theatre is proud to present: Return to the Forbidden Planet. Blast off on a routine flight and crash into the planet D’Illyria – where a sci-fi version of The Tempest set to rock and roll golden oldies unfolds with glee. This winner of an Oliver Award for Best Musical mixes one part Shakespeare’s The Tempest, one part 1950s B movie fave The Forbidden Planet, and healthy handfuls of vintage rock and roll standards like “Wipe Out,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Who’s Sorry Now,” “Born to Be Wild,” and many, many more. Prepare to dance in the aisles as you experience this irresistible retro-radioactive cult sensation send up of a sci-fi drive-in opus!
