Neighborhood Safety Walk

The Neighborhood Safety Walk on August 29 was quite a trek of over 4,000 steps, about two miles! Crime Prevention Specialist Darrel Hildebrant pointed out many examples of how to improve neighborhood safety.
The group then walked back to Riverside Elementary. There they were met with free bagels (donated by Panera Bread), water, and the best part…a fire truck, complete with firemen! They had fire helmets for the kids and showed the group around their truck, filled with amazing technology and tools to rescue people.

Lots of great door prizes (donated by local businesses and organizations) were given away including fire and carbon monoxide doctors and first aid kits.
The NeighborWalks group enjoyed learning about how to make their homes and communities safer. People are not only out walking but building relationships and learning more about their community. The next walk on September 5 focuses on Neighborhood Walkability Training. Participants will learn more about walking availability, safety, and barriers in their neighborhood as well as how barriers may be decreased. Training provided by Steps to a Healthier Minnesota Community Coordinator.
Keep counting your steps and we’ll see you Tuesdays, at 6:30 pm, at Riverside Elementary!
