On this morning's walk, we took a slight detour to the corner of Broadway and 2nd Street SW, where volunteers with MPR (incuding Rochester station manager Chris Cross, Mayor Ardell Brede, and former Diversity Council Exec Director George Thonmpson) were handing out cups of hot coffee and fancily-decorated ginger cookies to celebrate Minnesota Public Radio's 40th anniversary. Wearing vivid orange safety vests, they car-hopped the treats right up to drivers as they pulled up. (I wonder if they also noted how many cars were tuned to MPR?) They treated us walkers, too, and the hot coffee warmed me all the way home.

I cannot imagine life without MPR, both the music and news stations. Rog and I have been members since our college days--longer than we have been married. With the exception of a few years when we lived in far southeast Minesota and could not receive MPR (we were members of Wisconsin Public Radio then), we've been devoted listeners and members for 25 years!

On my way home along the river, I noticed some random, fleeting snow art. Someone had trampled a yin-yang symbol in the seating alcove of the bike trail near the waterfall scuplture. I love when people do things like that!

Usually on our morning walk we walk with our trusty pooch, Nutmeg. This morning I took our new puppy, Cocoa, for the first time. She's an Aussie rescue dog, five months old, and I need to socialize her with the world beyond our house and yard. Like a doting mom, I'll share a photo of her here:
