Adam Abdulle Academy Volunteer Opportunities
Want an amazing cross-cultural adventure?
Adam Abdulle Academy is a charter school in SW Rochester. We have a great need for volunteers. Want to help? We have listed our specific volunteer needs on the Olmsted County United Way Volunteer Opportunity web site
Here's some information about us:
Mission: As a K-6 Somali charter school, the mission of the Adam Abdulle Academy is to maximize opportunities for children through educational innovation that will ensure their full development as healthy and positive contributors to the greater community.
Description: The Adam Abdulle Academy is a small public charter school serving grades K-6 in southwest Rochester. The Academy strives to meet the distinct needs of our newly arrived student population, mainly from Somalia. The school creates a supportive family teaching community that utilizes shared ideals, goals, and experiences to foster a comprehensive and challenging education. There is one class per each grade and approximately 150 students. Because students are primarily English language learners, there is a great need for volunteers to promote literacy by improving students' reading skills.
History: The Adam Abdulle Academy opened its doors in September 2005. The school has recently partnered with AmeriCorps to coordinate the volunteer program and to create more opportunities for volunteer involvement. This is our third year of operation for Adam Abdulle Academy. Each year we have added one more grade level, so today we are bigger and better than ever and have more need for volunteers.
