Neighborhood Hero of the Year

At 8 years old, Tristen Trogstad was the 2007 Neighborhood Hero of the Year (pictured here receiving her award from Mayor Brede). Tristen ran for help to save her grandmother from a very serious medical situation.

Do you have a great neighbor? Then we want to hear from you!

Maybe you have a neighbor who:

  • always waves when people walk by.
  • keeps the neighborhood safe by keeping crime at bay.
  • has a fabulous front yard.
  • always welcomes new neighbors.
  • helps to organize the block crime watch.
  • plans events that bring your neighborhood together for fun.

As part of the National Night Out celebration, the Rochester Police Department and RNeighbors will be giving awards to those special people who make your neighborhood a better place to live.

Nominate your neighbors for one of the following categories.

  • Neighbor of the Year
  • Neighborhood of the Year
  • Neighborhood Block Watch of the Year
  • Neighborhood Hero of the Year
  • Neighborhood Project of the Year
  • Neighborhood Association of the Year
  • Neighborhood Event of the Year
  • Neighborhood Improvement of the Year
  • Neighborhood Crime Fighter of the Year
  • “Green” Neighbor of the Year
  • Mayor's Special Neighbor/Neighborhood Award

The winners will be announced at Rochesterfest on Thursday, June 26, at 6 PM on the Main Stage AND given the opportunity to ride on the RNeighbors Float in the Rochesterfest Parade on Friday, June 27, 2008. Check our website to see pictures and read all about last year's winners.

Nominating someone is simple. Just list who you are nominating, for which award, and a paragraph or two why you feel they deserve such an honor. Deadline for entries is June 1, 2008.

Send your entries by email to Darrel Hildebrant or by snail mail to Darrel at the Rochester Police Department, Crime Prevention Unit, 101 SE 4 Street, Rochester, MN 55904-3761, or call 507-328-6890.

We're looking forward to hearing all about your neighbors and what's great about Rochester neighborhoods!
