Youth and Adult Mini Summit
United Way of Olmsted County was selected to host a mini summit to stimulate new and continued community action to connect and mobilize youth, families, schools, and the community around positive outcomes for middle school youth. The focus will be on middle school youth who need help to be successful in school.
This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together youth (per described above), schools (administrators, teachers, coaches, counselors, paraprofessionals), youth serving organizations, business, volunteers, and parents/guardians to promote best practices in youth development, including strategies to incorporate youth voice and engagement into the 2008-09 Middle School Youth Initiative and afterschool programming.
Youth that are part of the Middle School Youth Initiative @ Willow Creek and Willow Creek RAP are helping to plan the mini summit participate in the statewide planning meeting in St. Paul in April, and help plan and facilitate the mini summit on May 17. The mini summit will bring great statewide resources to our community and involve great local resources to help meet the outcomes of the summit (below).
Please, MARK YOUR CALENDAR for May 17 and encourage staff, parents, and volunteers who work with or would like to work with this group of youth to do the same.
