Rochester Postcard Book

Rochester has grown and changed incredibly since it was chartered as a city in 1858. Many of the places depicted in this book either no longer exist or have changed significantly. Despite these changes, Rochester retains its small-town welcomeness. Using vintage postcards, this book tells the story of the development of a remarkable community. Whether readers have lived in Rochester all of their lives or are first-time visitors, this book is a fascinating look back into a unique history.

Alan Calavano is an active volunteer and board member of the History Center of Olmsted County. He is also a member of the Rochester Heritage Preservation Committee and was general chairman of the Rochester Sesquicentennial Celebration (1854-2004) held throughout 2004. Calavano has an extensive collection of vintage Rochester postcards and photographs and has helped organize and catalog the History Center's collection of postcards and historic Rochester photographs.

All of the proceeds from the book will go to the History Center. Copies of the book can be purchased at the History Center, Eagle Drug, the Christian Book Store, Hunt Drug, and soon at Barnes & Noble. Alan will be doing a book presentation and signing at the History Center on Wednesday, May 14 at 9:00 AM.
