There are 4 topics in this annoucement:
1) School board candidate forum on October 14 in place of our regular meeting
2) School district boundary changes and the proposed shift of the Montessori program from Ben Franklin to Sunset Terrace, including notices of a meeting being held TONIGHT, Sept 23, with one at Mayo High School at 7:30pm
3) A need for new volunteers on the Meadow Park Neighbors board
4) Suspension of future Meadow Park Neighborhood meetings until new board members step forward

Respectfully,
Janet Krueger
Secretary, Meadow Park Neighbors

  1. School board candidate forum on October 14 in place of our regular meeting
At our last meeting, I announced that our next meeting would be on Tuesday, October 14 with the candidates for school board. However, the League of Women Voters decided to schedule their forum for the school board candidates on the same day. It is now scheduled for:
October 14 School Board Candidate Forum
Sponsored by League of Women Voters of Rochester
    7:00PM - 9:10PM School Board Candidates
Edison Building - Rochester Public Schools
    615 7th Street SW
Free and open to the public

In deference to that forum, we are cancelling our October meeeting. Please consider attending the League of Women Voters forum to raise any issues you have with the school board and to help determine who to vote for in November.

  2. School district boundary changes and the proposed shift of the Montessori program from Ben Franklin to Sunset Terrace
You may not realize that the enrolment shuffle to move students into the new elementary school in NW Rochester could have a big impact on Meadow Park. This September 20, Post-Bulletin article [1] ran on the subject.

There are 6 proposed boundary maps, 3 of which include moving the Montessori program currently at Ben Franklin to Sunset Terrace. Three feedback sessions have been scheduled for the committee drawing the new boundaries TONIGHT, Sept 23. One is at 5pm at John Marshall, the second is at 6:30pm at Century, and the last is at 7:30pm at Mayo High School. I apologize for the short notice, but if you agree that shifting the programs held at Ben Franklin could impact the appeal of our neighborhood and long term housing prices in the area, please consider attending and making your voice heard.

  3. A need for new volunteers on the Meadow Park Neighbors board
Several of our officers have completed their terms on the Meadow Park Board. Tami Timbeross has done a great job as president for the last 3 years, but is now ready to move on to other activies. Gary Allar has served as treasurer for the two years and is also ready to step down. Chad Van Schepen is currently the vice president and is also ready to step down.

I am willing to run for another term, but we need at least 3 other people on the board of directors. If you are at all willing to serve, PLEASE call me or send me an email. It is not a time consuming job and there is a lot of flexibility for what we choose to focus on. I can be contacted at home at 289-9030, at work at 285-7370 x203 or on my cell at 250-5568, and email [2].

There is much value in having an active neighborhood association. It gives us the informed voice of a group, instead of only one voice. But an association does take active people involved who care about their neighbors. Please take a moment to consider taking up a leadership role and invest in our neighborhood.

  4. Suspension of future Meadow Park Neighborhood meetings until new board members step forward
The current board has decided not to schedule any future meetings until at least 3 new people step forward to serve on the board. If you don't have time, please check with your neighbors to see if one of them might be willing...
