Did you know a brain injury occurs every 23 seconds? Or, can you believe the number of people who annually sustain a brain injury is six times greater than the total number of new multiple sclerosis, HIV and breast cancer cases combined? Yet, brain injury is often overlooked and therefore makes it a silent epidemic.

In 1984 a small group of families and providers came together to form what is now the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota. It was a grassroots effort to advocate for services at a time when resources were limited at best for persons with brain injury and their families. Today it is still the only statewide nonprofit organization in Minnesota devoted solely to serving the needs of the estimated 100,000 Minnesotans (12,000 children and young adults) who live with disability due to brain injury, their families and the professionals who work with them.

The 7th Annual Walk for Thought has been scheduled for Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. at Silver Lake in Rochester, Como Lake in St. Paul, and Canal Park in Duluth.

Donations can be made (anonymously if you wish) at:

http://www.braininjurymn.org/fundraising/event/walkforthoughtrochester/j-hookdodgers

Suggested donation is $25...to help pay for T-Shirts, but any amount would be graciously appreciated!

Fund raising of course is the main goal of this event, however, the intent of this event is also to raise awareness. So please come and join us for camaraderie and fun, on our walk for victims of TBI's (traumatic brain injuries).

Maybe you are unable to donate in these trying economic times, no matter; we still hope to see you there to make a statement of awareness and join us for fun and a little excercise?!
