The Mural of the Story
This afternoon I came across great art in the making. Mural artist Greg Wimmer was painting a larger-than -life woman in a colorful (Mediterranean?) setting on the south wall of Kismet, a delightful consignment store located at 601 North Broadway.
Greg showed me his design, which he created to scale, then scanned into a computer. The image was projected onto the wall in segments and drawn on before painting. He has been working on this mural for 3 weeks for about 4 hours a day.
Greg had already embellished Kismet's front facade last summer - an effort that won a a CUDE Award! Wimmer is responsible for a few other favorite murals around town, too, including the Fire Safety Mural on 4th Street Southeast and the huge vintage radio painted on the KROC building (4th Street SW).
