Crossings at Carnegie, the intrepid little art center in nearby Zumbrota, is currently exhibiting figures drawn (and painted) from life. As one of the participating artists, I cordially invite you to attend the opening reception this Saturday, January 12th. [As a proud mom, I also have to note that my daughter, Cadence, also has several works in the show and one of her drawings was selected for the publicity postcard.]

Here is the press release from Crossings with complete details:

Think there is nothing to do in Rochester? Think Again. Did you know that in October there will be over 85 arts events in Rochester?!

Mayor Ardell Brede, the Rochester Downtown Alliance, the Arts Council and the Arts Administrators Round Table (AART) invite you to celebrate the arts in Rochester this October! October is National Arts and Humanities month and was dubbed “ARTStober” five years ago by Mayor Ardell Brede to increase awareness and appreciation for Rochester’s vibrant and varied artistic community. Celebrate ARTStoberfest this year by experiencing the arts. A special kick-off event, art walk, skyway art contest and a series of surprise AART attacks are planned throughout the month in addition to those events previously scheduled by local arts groups. Visit www.artstoberfest.com or www.downtownrochestermn.com for a calendar and information.

The Mural of the Story

Kismet mural

This afternoon I came across great art in the making. Mural artist Greg Wimmer was painting a larger-than -life woman in a colorful (Mediterranean?) setting on the south wall of Kismet, a delightful consignment store located at 601 North Broadway.

Greg showed me his design, which he created to scale, then scanned into a computer. The image was projected onto the wall in segments and drawn on before painting. He has been working on this mural for 3 weeks for about 4 hours a day.

Greg had already embellished Kismet's front facade last summer - an effort that won a a CUDE Award! Wimmer is responsible for a few other favorite murals around town, too, including the Fire Safety Mural on 4th Street Southeast and the huge vintage radio painted on the KROC building (4th Street SW).
