Steps to a Healthier Rochester is offering small grant funds available for employee wellness initiatives. Three ($500) grants will be awarded to Rochester employers for the purpose of improving employee health and increasing healthy behaviors.

How can the funds be used?

The Work Well, Bee Well mini-grants aim to improve healthy behaviors among staff of Rochester employers. These funds are available to assist with development of worksite wellness teams, enhance wellness action plans or policies for an organization, implement a healthy behavior program or challenge, purchase incentives in conjunction with specific worksite wellness programs or a combination of the above.

Programming may include, but are not limited to health behaviors in the areas of physical activity, healthy eating/weight management, stress management, tobacco cessation or medical self-care. Funds may not be used for: purchase of exercise equipment, medical supplies, building construction costs, capital or fund-raising campaigns, travel related costs, or provision of alcohol, tobacco or other controlled substances. Strategies must be implemented by December 31, 2007.

Who should apply?

Business and organizations of all sizes are encouraged to apply.

Small businesses, without dedicated worksite wellness staffing, will be given priority for funding. Funds will be awarded based on greatest need, use of the funding, and plans for worksite wellness efforts. The funds are intended to jump-start staff wellness initiatives.

Applications for funds are due by Friday, April 13, 2007. Application form attached.

Additional Information
All organizations receiving funding will be responsible for participating in a mini-grant orientation meeting and submitting brief progress and/or final reports. Additional resources (incentives, health and wellness materials, wellness consultation) will be provided to Work Well, Bee Well grantees to ensure support of wellness efforts. Grants are anticipated to be awarded by May 15th, 2007.
