2009 Fall RNeighborWoods Tree Grant

Trees make good neighbors.

On October 10, 2009, Northwest neighbor Ron Stephan with the help of his daughters rallied his neighborhood together to plant 20 Ginkgo trees on a frosty Saturday morning.

Volunteers were anxious to get planting and warm up. Citizen forester Jesse Hoekstra demonstrated proper planting techniques and quickly put the neighbors to work. After we began planting a few more neighbors joined in and the trees were in the ground in a little over an hour.

Volunteers gathered afterwards in Ron’s garage to enjoy some coffee and pastries graciously donated by Daube’s bakery.

Unfortunately the cold weather led to the Ginkgos dropping their leaves but the neighbors were aware that this is normal and how as they grow they will provide many benefits beyond the beautification of the neighborhood.

This neighborhood was the recipient of the RNeighborWoods Fall Tree Grant. Two green thumbs up for the work these neighbors and the RNeighborWoods group put in to add trees to their tree-less street.
