Neighbors for Safety January Update
Since our large public information meeting in December, the Neighbors for Safety group continues to work in the background collecting information and building a strategic plan that we will bring to the City Council in March.
The ongoing goal of this group of neighborhood leaders and business people is to strengthen neighborhood safety through improved neighborhood, city, and police relationships. Our focus is not to delve into the social aspects that we realize also play into this topic, as there are other efforts in Rochester focusing on these.
The four focus areas for Neighbors for Safety continue to be:
- Neighborhood Policing
- Gang Issues
- Police Force
- Improved Coordination of City Departments
Neighbors for Safety is continuing to research both local and national resources on safety topics. The National League of Cities has assembled a very comprehensive document that Neighbors for Safety has been using as a resource: Preventing Gang Violence and Building Communities Where Young People Thrive.
The next public information meeting will be April 20, 2010, at the International Event Center, at 6:30 pm. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend to hear about progress that has been made since our January meeting and our goals for Rochester neighborhoods in 2010.
