Creative Crosswalks – Prototyping Festival
Thursday, September 15, 9 am-noon
RNeighbors was one of 16 prototyping proposals chosen to participate in the upcoming Placemaking Prototyping Festival. We were awarded a grant to paint “Creative Crosswalks” across 1st Avenue downtown to help bring art to a barren space and emphasize safe crosswalk space for the one of the most heavily used pedestrian areas in downtown Rochester. We are working with Greg Wimmer, the muralist who designed the street murals that are assets in several of our neighborhoods. In addition to painting this crosswalk we will be creating a video guide for neighborhood leaders to make their own creative crosswalks that includes the proper procedures for working with the City and the Public Works Department.
We’d love help in painting these crosswalks! Because of street closures, we only have a four hour window during the work day so will need all of the volunteers who can lend any amount of time. We’ll provide the brushes and paint, you provide the elbow grease. Meet us at the intersection next to Dooley’s and stay as long as you can, 15 minutes or three hours.
Invite your friends and neighbors through our facebook event or event flyer.
