Emerald Ash Borer Lunch & Learn
Thursday, June 11, 2009

Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive beetle from China that has the potential to kill all of Minnesota’s native ash trees, has been in the news a lot recently. Are you worried about your ash trees? Confused about what EAB (Emerald Ash Borer) means to you? Would you like to learn more about this destructive forest pest, its likely impacts on our forest and urban landscapes and what you can do about it? If so please join us for this lunch-n-learn. Please BRING your own lunch (food will NOT be provided).

Angela Gupta, forestry educator for the University of Minnesota, will present on EAB. Angela is a member of the EAB state readiness taskforce and a developer of the EAB First Detector program that helped find Minnesota’s first detection of EAB in St. Paul on May 13, 2009.

This class will be at the Rochester Public Library, 101 2nd St. SE, Rochester, in the auditorium from noon – 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2009. Credit for the Woodland Advisor Program and continuing education credit for Master Gardeners is provided. This program is FREE, but please BRING your own lunch, food will NOT be provided; pre-registration appreciated. To register and for directions contact Mary Jane Stearns at 888-241-4536 for mstearns@umn.edu. For information contact Angela Gupta 507-280-2869.

Southeastern Minnesota’s forested landscapes provide home to wildlife, income for landowners, clean water, and a beautiful scenic backdrop. However, the future health of these forests depends on care and wise management. If you own or spend time in southeastern Minnesota woodlands, attend our woodland management classes this year. Besides this class, we are offering Growing & Tending Your Forest and Direct Seeding later in June.

Classes are offered as a broad collaborative between the University of Minnesota Extension, the Minnesota DNR Department of Forestry, Hiawatha Sustainable Woods Cooperative, and the Minnesota Forestry Association.
