Council on Neighborhoods Meeting – May 21, 2019

CoNMay2019web
On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the Council on Neighborhoods (CoN) held their eighteenth official meeting.

Mission
To strengthen connections between neighborhood leaders and give neighborhoods a collective voice.

Representatives from the Slatterly Park, Eastside, Homestead Addition, Sunnyside, Historic SW, Northwest Neighbors, Lowertown, Oak Terrace Parkside, and Folwell neighborhoods were present, as well as Mayor Norton and a staff member of RNeighbors. The meeting theme was the current status of Rochester neighborhoods and ideas for the future. Meeting notes are posted online here.

The Council of Neighborhoods grew out of a Neighborhood Leader Focus Group that RNeighbors facilitated in January 2014. The focus of this inclusive group would be to make connections between neighborhoods, as well as improved communication between city departments and leaders.

It is a time of growth in Rochester and now, partnering with the Mayor’s Office, we’d like to provide timely and needed resources to neighborhood leaders in a format that is bite-sized and applicable. Future Council of Neighborhoods meetings will be split into three portions, 30 minutes each, including skills building, neighborhood best practices (learn from neighborhoods both local and across the nation), and current events with Mayor Norton.

Even if you’ve never previously attended a CoN meeting but are interested in making a difference in your Rochester neighborhood, we’d ask that you take 1-2 minutes to fill out this very short survey to give us feedback on the Council of Neighborhoods.
