2022 Fall Community Tree Planting Success
Volunteers and RNeighborWoods partners bundled up and showed up to plant 100 new street trees in the Prairie Crossing NW neighborhood on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The temperature was a chilly 30 degrees at the start of this planting, proving these Rochester volunteers are made of hearty stuff. Thanks to everyone who came out to lend a hand. What a difference your volunteerism has made to these neighborhood streets!
About 120 volunteers watched a tree planting demo by the City Forester and then dispersed into six predetermined groups, each led by Citizen Foresters. Getting back into our usual bi-annual tree planting schedule, we started a little after 9 am and all of the trees were in the ground by 11 am. Through the teamwork of RNeighborWoods since 2004, we have utilized 7,452 volunteers to plant 8,231 boulevard trees.
The morning’s tree planting was covered by KMIT.
In order to further diversify Rochester’s urban forest multiple types of trees were planted including:
- Small Stature (for under power lines)
Cucumber Magnolia, Redbud, Hornbeam - Medium/Large Stature
River Birch (single trunk), Turkish Filbert, White Oak, Blackgum, Yellowwood, Fruitless Sweetgum, Silver Linden, London Planetree
