Earth Week Mayoral Proclamation
WHEREAS, Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22, 2008 and Arbor Day is Friday, April 25, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day and Arbor Day inspire many organizations to host environmental events to help raise awareness of environmental issues during the month of April; and
WHEREAS, several environmental events have been planned in Rochester during the month of April; and
WHEREAS, the Rochester Public Library will screen the family film The Artic Tale on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Library Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, RNeighborWoods will hold Citizen Forester Training for people of all ages on Saturday, April 19th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Quarry Hill Nature Center; and
WHEREAS, many organizations are joining together to help make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! by collecting litter throughout the City between Saturday, April 19th through Saturday April 26th; and
WHEREAS, Rochester Public Utilities, Maier Forest and Tree, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and Rochester Park and Recreation will co-sponsor the Annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 25th in Central Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, RNeighborWoods will sponsor the Northern Addition Community Boulevard Tree Planting event beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 26th, meeting at Sertoma Park (West Silver Lake Dr. NE and 10th St. NE); and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Quarry Hill will host an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 26th at the Quarry Hill Nature Center with a Backyard Conservation Workshop from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; a Native Plant Sale from 9:00 am to noon; and Living Green Information Booths from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Rochester proclaims the month of April to be environmental awareness month in Rochester; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, all citizens and businesses in Rochester are encouraged to participate in any or all of these events so as to make Rochester a better place to live.
