Imagine Eastside
Eastside Pioneer neighbors came together for two Saturday brainstorming sessions held on January 13 and once again on February 23 of this year.
The purpose of these brainstorming sessions was to come up with our own ideas regarding neighborhood improvement without undermining the established small town, single family attributes of the neighborhood.
I grew up in this neighborhood and without whitewashing the past too much, I remember well the days when neighbors bought and fixed up their own homes and lived next door to each other for years at a time and crime was an unusual occurrence.
Today it seems like the opposite is true as neighbors hardly get to know one another before the for sale sign goes up and they part ways. Also it seems like the crime today is now almost a daily occurrence.
The Eastside Pioneers Neighborhood Association has not lost its stability but we would like to firm it up a little. The solution is simple, keep the low density attributes of the neighborhood and help homeowners to improve their homes and their neighborhood and get rid of the remaining criminal element.
The Eastside Pioneers entered into the Imagine process because we wanted to improve neighborhood homes and to help neighbors keep their homes. The best way we thought we could improve the neighborhood would be to help neighbors with home and property improvements.
We want our neighborhood to be a safe, attractive, low density, single family residential neighborhood. We want law abiding, friendly helpful neighbors. We want people to stay here and to feel safe here.
An attractive small town neighborhood next to a vibrant downtown will go a long way toward boosting the images of both entities.
