Rochesterfest Parade 2010
Although the parade was cancelled at the last second, the weeks of planning that RNeighbors put into preparing for the Rochesterfest parade was still a community building effort.
A nasty storm prevented us (and the many other parade entries) from showing off our smiling faces and brightly designed float, we did have a chance to bring together lots of enthusiastic devotees.
How did it all get done?
- Kids from the Summer of Service program painted boxes designed as houses to be displayed on our float.
- RNeighbors leaders and interns spent days taping, tying and gluing the float together.
- Mike Podulke used his artistic skills to design and create an outfit for our Think Green mascot to wear.
- Neighborhood friends lent wagons to our entry and joined us to walk by the float during the parade.
- The Litter Bit Better folks joined in to pass out litter bags for parade watchers to put trash, candy and collected fliers in.
- This year we even had a group of JOY Kids (Juneteenth Organization for Youth) join us to share their smiling faces with our parade walkers to help pass out litter bags and stickers promoting our Think Green Fair.
It was fun to see the many different RNeighbors shirts that our walkers wore including RNeighborWoods, RColorful Corners, Think Green, National Night Out, Litter Bit Better!, JOY kids, RLuau, and Jaime even showed up with a vintage RNeighborWalks shirt. Each partner program does valuable stuff in Rochester neighborhoods.
Thanks to all of you who helped in some way. We could not have had such a successful event with out the help from specific friends.
- Gary Komaniecki, allowed us to use Mayo High School to decorate our float.
- Park and Rec for allowing us to borrow a trailer to be used as the float.
- Maier Forest and Tree for providing an amazing tree truck and driver Nate, to pull our neighborhood on wheels.
