Diversity Council Presents:

Welcome to Shelbyville is a glimpse of America at a crossroads. In this one small town in the heart of America’s Bible Belt, a community grapples with change.

Set on the eve of the 2008 Presidential election, the economy is in crisis, factories are closing, and jobs are hard to find. When the local Tyson chicken plant hires hundreds of new Somali refugees, a flurry of controversy erupts as longtime African American and white residents struggle to integrate the newcomers and understand what it means to be American. Welcome to Shelbyville is presented in recognition of Word Refugee Day, which seeks to give a voice to more than 40 million uprooted people around the world. This screening is made possible by the BeCause Foundation and Active Voice.
