RPU Arbor Day Celebration April 26
Partnering Sponsors – Rochester Public Utilities (RPU), Maier Tree & Lawn, and Rochester Park & Recreation hold an Annual Arbor Day Celebration on the last Friday in April every year.
The celebration is held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in downtown Rochester and is open to the public. The festivities include live music, lunch, free trees, various vendors, and many family activities. Winners of the elementary school Arbor Day Poster Contest are also announced.

Mayo Park, located behind the Mayo Civic Center. As in past years, if there is extreme weather, the event will be moved indoors – this year to Rochester Community and Technical College’s Field House.
Co-Sponsors include: Hy-Vee, Minnesota Energy Resources, Sargent’s Gardens, and Seneca Foods.
Participants include: Olmsted Soil & Water Conservation District, People’s Energy Cooperative, Quarry Hill Nature Center, RNeighbors, Rochester Public Works, University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point, Zumbro Valley Audubon, and Zumbro Valley Woodland Council.
The festivities include:

• Free Food – Hot Dogs, Chips, Corn on the Cob, Cookies, and Soda
• Presentation of 2013 Poster Contest Winners
• Live Music from Paul Mayasich and his band, Real American Made Music
• Free Trees
• Giveaways
• Family Activities including:

o Bean Bag Toss

o Scavenger Hunt
o Kids Tree Climbing

Also, starting at 12:30 pm, is the Right Tree, Right Place tree planting. RNeighbors, Rochester Park & Recreation, RPU, and citizen volunteers will plant 50 appropriate type trees under power lines. All ages of the public are welcome to join. There is no cost or experience necessary. Meet at Mayo Park, east of the Mayo Civic Center. Download the flyer for more information.
