For the ninth year, we challenged all fourth grade students in Rochester to draw a brightly colored picture that displays “Why it is important to not litter”. Out of 220 entries from 15 schools across Rochester this year’s Grand Prize Winner was Natalie Kottom, a student in Mr. Pacyna’s fourth grade class at Schaeffer Academy. On December 15, 2015, Natalie was awarded with: an A Litter Bit Better! T-shirt, a large poster with her artwork, a $100 office supply gift card for her classroom, and a pizza lunch with Mayor Ardell Brede for her classmates. Additionally, Natalie’s artwork will become the centerpiece of pledge cards that encourage all Rochester fourth grade students to pledge not to litter, to always pick up litter, and to tell others not to litter.

More information about the litter pickup effort Litter Bit Better can be found here and here to view other school winners from this year’s poster contest or to download your very own pledge card with Natalie’s artwork. Photos from the pizza party can be seen on the RNeighbors facebook page.
