Alternate Side Parking Pilot Program Update
The Alternate Side Winter Parking Pilot Program will not be enacted this year.
Kutzky Park, Eastside Pioneers and Slatterly Park have opted-out of the pilot program. Discussions during the pilot program raised questions about the current parking restrictions in these neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are being given the opportunity to review the location and effectiveness of existing parking restrictions in their neighborhood. All existing signs in the City of Rochester will be replaced with more reflective signs by the year 2018. The Public Works Department has asked the neighborhoods to take a lead and present to the Department their requests for parking restrictions as a part of a neighborhood transportation plan. Get involved with your neighborhood organization to provide input in this process.
12-Hour Rule Parking Enforcement
The Public Works Department has been approved by the courts to allow Public Works Employees (Engineering Technicians, Inspectors, etc.) to issue parking tickets during snow related events. Public Works employees will only be able to issue tickets related to a snow event. The purposes are to improve snow plow efficiencies, access for emergency vehicles and keep the streets plowed from curb-to-curb in neighborhoods.
The 12-hour parking rule currently exists in the ordinances and will be a priority for Public Works during and after snow events. Parking enforcement of the 12-hour parking rule will be increasing this winter. The ordinance states vehicles in the city of Rochester are not allowed to park in an on-street location for more than twelve (12) consecutive hours. Violations are subject to a $22 parking ticket and a possible towing. Help your neighborhood during snow events, if possible, park your vehicle off-street and follow the 12-hour parking rule.
