Call for Artists – Chalk the Block 2023
Event Date: September 30 (Rain Date Sunday, October 1)
Artists Working: 9:30 am-1:45 pm
Award Ceremony: 2 pm
Location: Graham Park (Olmsted County Fairgrounds) SE Parking Lot
Theme: “Art is the highest form of Hope.” – Gerhard Richter
- Each participant will have a designated block of pavement 17 ft. long and 8 ft. wide. Required mural 4 ft. x4 ft. (or 16 square ft.) will fit inside of this to allow artist(s) space to walk around mural while working.
- Artists Categories:
- Youth (14-17) (students do not have to pay registration fee of $10)
- Adult (18+)
- Collaborative Group (school, neighborhood, organization)
- Family
- Professional Artist
- Awards given in each category. Judges’ final walk through at 1:30 pm. Short award ceremony at 2 pm. *
- Professional artists will be paid $400 upon completion of their chalk art.
- Registration is $10 (students are free). Scholarships are available. Email.
- Registration includes one large box of artist chalk. Participants are welcome to also use their own chalk.
- No refunds. Registration fees will be used for awards.

Chalk the Block Artist Guidelines & Rules
I, the undersigned (guardian if under 18), acknowledge that:

The original art I create must be suitable for public, family and children viewing (no nude or lewd work, profanity). No words or symbols intended as political statements may appear within the art.

I will be courteous, friendly and helpful to fellow artists and members of the public.

I will not use or bring drugs or alcohol on the premises.

RNeighbors and Chalk the Block partners are allowed to create, use and publish photographs/film/video/electronic representations and/or sound recordings of my design and myself or my minor child at Chalk the Block and release related parties from any and all liability from such use and publication.

By typing and signing my name on the registration, I pledge to follow these guidelines and it certifies that I have read and agree to abide by the Artist Guidelines & Rules.
