Help Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! Registration Now Open 2017

So far, over 122 tons of litter has been collected by thousands of citizens since the program began in 2007. This year’s event will be April 22-29 and registration is now open. Volunteers are encouraged to collect litter anytime during that week. Trash and recycling bags are provided, all you need to do is pick a location, pick a date, and pick it up! Spring 2017 Community Tree Planting

Mayor’s Council on Neighborhoods Meeting – February 2017

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, the Mayor’s Council on Neighborhoods (MCN) held their thirteenth official meeting. Representatives from the Sunnyside, Historic SW, Eastside, Slatterly Park, Northwest, Kutzky Park, Folwell, and Indian Heights neighborhood associations were in attendance, as well as representatives from Public Health and an undefined neighborhood on Folwell Drive. 2017 Spring Neighborhood Tree Grant Available

Photo: The Kutzky Park Neighborhood Association received our 2016 fall tree grant. Thanks to RNeighborWoods partners Rochester Park & Recreation and Maier Tree & Lawn, as well as all of the fabulous neighbors (a few pictured here) who came out to help green up their streets. These grants reimburse up to $1,000 in costs for neighborhoods to complete projects that enhance a neighborhood’s livability and involvement, benefit the entire neighborhood and promote a strong sense of community. For the tenth year, we challenged all fourth grade students in Rochester to draw a brightly colored picture that displays: Why it is important to not litter How you will make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! 2016 Neighborhood Project Grant Results

Results are in for the second year of the Neighborhood Project Grants and the completed projects are pretty impressive. In total $6,868 of funds were distributed between eight different neighborhood projects through seven different grants. Over 440 hours of volunteer time was put into these projects, a value of $10,150.80 to our neighborhoods. Spark Transformation – Jay Walljasper Event

Over 60 people came out on Thursday, October 13, at the Rochester Public Library, to hear what writer and speaker Jay Walljasper had to say about “25 Ways to Spark Creative Transformation in Your Community.” Many ideas and stories came from his book, The Great Neighborhood Book, a Do-it-Yourself Guide to Placemaking.
