The city trees of Rochester now have a whole class of brand new caretakers. Congratulations to the spring Citizen Forester graduates who completed a four hour class on Saturday, April 16. Cosponsored by City of Rochester Forestry Department, Quarry Hill, and RNeighbors this class teaches learning tree planting basics, care, basic arboriculture, urban forest advocacy, and hands-on activities. These grants reimburse up to $1,000 in costs for neighborhoods to complete projects that enhance a neighborhood’s livability and involvement, benefit the entire neighborhood and promote a strong sense of community. Realize Rain Gardens Rochester Cost-Share Grant Applications

In 2009, the City of Rochester launched Realize Rain Gardens Rochester – a cost-share grant program promoting the installation of residential rain gardens in Rochester. A task force of interested citizens and the City’s Public Works staff developed this program. Selected sites are used to demonstrate how raingardens slow, treat, and infiltrate storm water, while adding beauty to neighborhoods and creating habitat for songbirds and butterflies.
