Litter Bit Better Spring 2024 Results

The results are in! Over 12,320 pounds of litter was collected by A Litter Bit Better volunteers during this year’s event. An estimated 3,164 volunteers picked up 324 sites that covered many locations around Rochester. Neighborhoods were beautified, citizens gave back to their community, and all that waste was prevented from polluting our land and water. Special thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors for making this program possible for the last 18 years!

For the second year, the RNeighborWoods team is offering a different outdoor park experience for a winning neighborhood: a natural playscape! The 2023 winner was the Elton Hills neighborhood, the logs placed at Allendale Park. Our partners at the Park and Rec Forestry Department have created Lincoln Log-style beams that can be stacked together in a natural play area, fun for all ages to climb and sit on. Spring 2024 RNeighborWoods Community Tree Planting

Planting trees along streets maximizes the benefits of the city-wide tree canopy. Through the teamwork of RNeighborWoods since 2004, we have utilized 7,577 volunteers to plant 8,338 boulevard trees. These trees provide multiple ecological and other public benefits, including reducing Rochester’s carbon footprint. Rochester’s urban forest includes 41,177 public trees on neighborhood boulevards and parks. In one year, 33,100 lbs of pollutants were removed from the air, and $719.284 in stormwater benefits were achieved thanks to these trees. Here is an…

2023 Neighborhood Project Grant Results

2023 was the ninth year of our Neighborhood Project Grants (NPGs). These grants now reimburse up to $3,000 for neighborhoods to complete projects that enhance a neighborhood’s livability and involvement, benefit the entire neighborhood, and promote a strong sense of community. 2020-2022 were quiet years for NPGs as neighbors dealt with the pandemic. RNeighbors Neighborhood Project Grants reimburse up to $3,000 in costs for neighborhoods to complete projects that: Enhance a neighborhood’s livability and involvement Benefit the entire neighborhood Promote a strong sense of community.
