On Saturday, May 7, 2011, 450 neighbors, youth, and other community volunteers worked together to plant 1,000 trees in one morning, a record number of trees planted in one morning for the state of Minnesota and the RNeighborWoods program. The city’s boulevard tree spaces are currently over half empty and each year 500-900 boulevard trees are removed to disease or damage.   2010 Fall Tree Grant winners Homestead neighbors worked together on a gorgeous fall day to plant 20 trees and add leafy trees to their historic neighborhood boulevards. Trees make good neighbors. Since its creation in 2004, RNeighborWoods has organized 3,246 volunteers to plant 3,535 trees on Rochester boulevards. These trees provide multiple ecological and other public benefits including reducing Rochester’s carbon footprint.
