Volunteers and RNeighborWoods partners bundled up and showed up to plant 100 new street trees in the Prairie Crossing NW neighborhood on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Planting trees along streets maximizes the benefits we receive from the tree canopy. Trees intercept rainfall, shade pavement to cool neighborhoods, and extend the lifespan of our streets. In our city, up to 1,000 boulevard trees are removed due to disease or damage each year. Through the teamwork of RNeighborWoods since 2004, we have utilized 7,332 volunteers to plant 8,131 boulevard trees. RNeighbors, in partnership with the Southeastern Minnesota Poets, and City of Rochester organized the city-wide Chalk the Block Festival on July 24. The goal of this event was for citizens to connect across Rochester and express themselves through creating poetry and sidewalk chalk murals with the theme of Creating Memorable Connections. Litter Bit Better 2022 Summary

2022 was the 15th annual Litter Bit Better event. Each year, thousands of volunteers collect litter from across Rochester. Together in the past 15 years, individuals, service groups, businesses, scout troops, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, and families have worked together to remove over 321,286 pounds of litter from the community.
