2010 Fall RNeighborWoods Tree Grant

                                    Trees make good neighbors. Since its creation in 2004, the grassroots RNeighborWoods program has organized 1,965 volunteers to plant 2,239 trees on Rochester boulevards. These trees provide multiple ecological and other public benefits including reducing Rochester’s carbon footprint. Three Rochester ogranizations have teamed up and pooled their resources to jointly recruit 100 aditional mentors to give one on one guidance to youth who face a myriad of challenges. Before the grills across Rochester started cooking up hamburgers and hotdogs, 2010’s National Night Out (NNO) celebration started off early in neighborhoods on Tuesday, August 3.  RNeighbors partnered with youth from Community Ed’s Summer of Service (SOS) program, the JOY (Juneteenth) kids, and Crime Prevention to work with neighborhoods to “Chalk the Block“. This year’s Rochester Pond and Garden Tour was another beautiful success thanks to neighbors, volunteers and creative designers. The Pond and Garden Tour has always been a unique way to bring people out. The self guided tour featured beautiful plants, graceful waterfalls and creative decorative ideas.
