In September 2009, at the RNeighbors annual fundraiser RLuau, a conversation about public safety concerns took place. Following this, Neighbors for Safety was brought together, made up of leaders from the Cimarron, Historic Southwest, Kutzky Park, Eastside, and Slatterly Park neighborhood associations, business leader Joe Powers, and RNeighbors served as the organizing entity.
