Earth Month 2015 Proclamation
Mayor Ardell F. Brede held a media conference on April 1, 2015, in the Government Center’s City Hall Atrium, issuing a Mayoral Proclamation for Earth Month 2015, highlighting environmental activities scheduled throughout the month of April.
Earth Month 2015 Proclamation
WHEREAS,
Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22, 2015 and Arbor Day is Friday, April 24, 2015; and
WHEREAS,
Earth Day and Arbor Day inspire many organizations to host environmental events to help raise awareness of environmental issues during the month of April; and
WHEREAS,
several environmental events have been planned in Rochester during the month of April; and
WHEREAS,
The Mayor’s Urban Forestry Volunteer Awards are presented to volunteers and businesses for branching out and helping to grow Rochester’s urban forest working with the RNeighborWoods program, April 1, 10am.; and
WHEREAS,
RNeighborWoods will hold Citizen Forester Training for people of all ages on Saturday, April 11th from 8am to Noon at Quarry Hill Nature Center; and
WHEREAS,
Citizens will Help Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! by collecting litter throughout the City between Saturday, April 18th through Saturday April 25th; and
WHEREAS,
RNeighborWoods will plant 25 boulevard trees with neighbors in a Northwest neighborhood on Saturday, April 18th at 9:30am through the Neighborhood Tree Grant; and
WHEREAS,
Earth Fest – Healthy Earth, Healthy Community is happening April 18-26th with events around Rochester, including the EcoFair at Mayo Civic Center on April 26th; and
WHEREAS,
Quarry Hill Nature Center will host an Earth Day Fun Open House with live animal programs, animal survival games, and a spring clean-up on Tuesday, April 22th from 4pm to 6pm and a Native Plant Sale on Friday, April 25th from 8:00am to 10am; and
WHEREAS,
Rochester Public Utilities’ 13th Annual Arbor Day Celebration, with partners Maier Tree & Lawn and Rochester Park & Recreation, will be held on Friday, April 24th at Three Links-Silver Lake Park (located at 840 7th Street NE) from 11am to 1pm (RCTC Field House in case of bad weather.); and
WHEREAS,
The Right Tree Right Place Planting will take place on Friday, April 24th beginning at 8am. Rochester Public Utilities and Rochester Park & Recreation will plant approximately 65 power line compatible trees under power lines on 16th Street SE from 3rd Avenue to 11th Avenue SE; and
WHEREAS,
The Rochester Public Library is hosting Master Gardener Presentations, Craft Projects, and Preschool Story Time throughout the month of April; and
WHEREAS,
RNeighborWoods will sponsor a Community Tree Planting event beginning at 9 am on Saturday, May 2nd. Details can be found at RNeighbors.org.
NOW THEREFORE:
I, Ardell F. Brede, Mayor of the city of Rochester do hereby proclaim the month of April to be
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS MONTH
and all citizens and businesses in Rochester are encouraged to participate in any or all of these events so as to make Rochester a better place to live.
