Forest Management in Our Region
A Workshop for Landowners, Foresters, Loggers, & Local Officials

St. Mary’s University
Winona, Minnesota

Do you own forestland in southeastern Minnesota?

If so you’ll want to come to the “Forest Management in Our Region” workshop for private forest landowners on March 30 and 31, 2007 at St. Mary’s University in Winona.

This workshop will be about forest management and available resources for forest landowners and resource managers.

At this workshop you’ll get answers to questions like:

  • How do I improve habitat?
  • What’s that shrub overtaking my woods?
  • Who do I call for help?
  • How do I arrange a timber sale? What should I do with my woods?
  • Do I need a forest management plan?
  • How can I protect my land from development?
  • What is forest certification?
  • Besides timber, why is my forest so important?

You’ll also meet other landowners and share forest management experiences.

Presentations by forestry professionals, resource managers, and experienced landowners will discuss why the forests and other habitats of southeastern Minnesota’s blufflands are important. Presentations will be on forest management, protection, invasive species, habitat improvement, and financial and technical assistance. Additional topics will include the importance of large forested areas for wildlife and local economies; find out how local communities can maintain and improve local economies through sound land use planning.

In addition, vendors will be present. Attendees can see new forestry equipment demonstrated and on display.

Professional service representatives will be there to talk about logging, timber stand improvement, invasive species control, and much more.

  • Day 1 (March 30, 2007) will focus on the forest industry in southeastern Minnesota, land use planning, and sustainable forestry.
  • Day 2 (March 31, 2007) will focus on private forest management and resources available to the private forest land owner/manager.
