Description
You know your topic (trees and forestry) but do you know how to teach it? This workshop will lead you through fun, hands-on activities designed to teach you how to appeal to different learning styles, improve your field day activities, how to work with teachers, use age-appropriate activities, and more. The workshop will incorporate the Project Learning Tree PreK-8 Activity Guide (www.dnr.state.mn.us/plt) which contains 96 fantastic forestry and environmental activities.

Up to five CFE contact hours are available through the Society of American Foresters (SAF). Woodland Advisor volunteers who attend will earn one WAE13 elective credit.

The workshop will cover the following topics

  • What teachers expect from you
  • Pedagogy 101 (“the art of teaching”)
  • How to teach at an environmental field day
  • Differences in learning styles
  • Ready-to use, age-appropriate activities and lessons, on topics such as: fire ecology, measuring trees, why trees grow the way they do, forest management, natural resources careers, water cycles, and more!

  • Optional: 5 Society of American Forester CFE contact hours
  • Optional: 1 Woodland Advisor WAE13 elective credit
