What’s a Raingarden and Why Plant One Here?
Raingardens are strategically placed to capture and treat storm water runoff. They are planted with long-rooted, water-loving plants that absorb water and pollutants, increase infiltration, and stabilize soil. They also reduce lawn maintenance, beautify yards, and provide habitat for birds, butterflies, and other insects.
The Quarry Hill Nature Center raingarden will help visitors learn how raingardens can be used everywhere to help keep our rivers and lakes clean.
Many partners who work for cleaner water have joined together to develop this raingarden, including: the Zumbro Watershed Partnership, Olmsted County Public Works, Olmsted County Soil and Water Conservation District, Yaggy Colby, Master Gardeners, and the Rochester Public Works and Park and Recreation Departments.
