Snow Emergency Declaration for Downtown
City of Rochester, Public Works Department, Streets Division
This is an Official Snow Emergency Declaration.
Rochester City officials are declaring a Snow Emergency effective 12:00 am Tuesday December 14, 2010. The snowfall totals over the weekend have resulted in a many downtown city streets becoming increasingly narrow, the result of blowing snow and snow filled boulevards and numerous vehicles parked on downtown streets through the day and night.
The Snow Emergency parking restriction applies ONLY to the Downtown Business District, for Tuesday 12/14/10 between the hours of 12:00 am midnight and 8:00 am.
In the Downtown Rochester Business District many streets have been posted for NO PARKING from 12:00 am to 8:00 am for Tuesday morning 12/14/10. The existing Downtown Business District overnight no parking restrictions between 2:00 am and 6:00 am are in effect on all other Downtown Business District streets.
The Rochester Police Department will be actively assisting the City’s Public Works Department in getting cars, illegally parked during this Snow Emergency, off of the street so the that the snow plows can plow the streets curb to curb and remove the snow piled in the middle of the streets. Cars illegally parked will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
Residents must use off-street parking spaces. This will enable the Public Works crews to plow the complete width of the streets over the next two early morning periods. The snow removal operation will be completed more timely and cost effectively and will provide for streets that are sufficiently wide for snow plows and emergency vehicles to navigate.
