Rivers of Regeneration Art Exhibition

Rivers of Regeneration Art Exhibition

“Water Matters” is a coalition of Olmsted County regional groups focused on water sustainability issues in the Zumbro River Watershed region. For the past year, Water Matters has organized monthly public forums, events and tours to inform people of the fragility of and myriad threats to our irreplaceable water resources.

Water Matters’ year of educational events will be capped in November by its most ambitious event yet, “Women and Water Rights: Rivers of Regeneration”–an exhibition of artwork by renowned women artists mostly from the Midwest, focused on water issues. This exhibition originally opened at the Katherine Nash Gallery at the University of Minnesota last March where it set attendance records.  The program addressed “. . . the precarious state of the world’s fresh water supply and the global need for gender mainstreaming in water management. Through an art exhibition and related programs, WWR underscores the message that water access is a universal human right.”

Water matters hopes to expand its reach to new audiences by bringing a selection of pieces from this exhibition to Rochester. The venue will be the new Cascade Meadow Wetlands and Environmental Science Center. The show will be open to the public Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. from November 20th through December 12th. A special preview and artist meet-and-greet will be held on Friday, November 19th from 7 to 9 p.m for a fee of $5.00. Local artists also are being invited to submit water-themed photography for a simultaneous companion exhibition in an adjacent area, organized by the Rochester Art Center.
