Weekly Green Fact
When the weather is cold and frigid we tend to shut and seal all of our doors and windows in order to keep in the heat.
So if we shut ourselves in and do not lit in any fresh air then the air in our homes is not fresh at all.
One way to clean your indoor air is by removing pollutants with the use of house-plants. House-plants can remove the 3 main indoor pollutants: formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide. They are easy to grow and most are resistant to insects and disease. They also have the ability to add moisture to the air which helps in the dry winter months.
Recommended plants are:
- Lady Palm
- Rubber Plant
- English Ivy
- Philodendron
- Green Spider Plants
- Peace Lilies
For best results plant 2-3 full-sized (in 10-12 inch containers) plants per 100-150 square-foot room. Also place plants near air ducts and circulation vents to maximize benefits (the larger the plant the more filtration capability).
One more good thing about house-plants is that they will not increase your electric bill.
